Central Louisiana Local Foods InitiativeMore great ideas are coming out of our Central Louisiana Local Foods Initiative group, working hard to improve access to local foods. We just love this idea, below, which reaches out to area businesses, asking them to incorporate a local foods philosophy into the work place. The ideas are simple, but capable of creating a powerful change in the daily lives and habits of employees throughout CenLa. Read more about their ideas in the following article, penned by our initiative partner, John Dean, regional food systems planner with the Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance (CLEDA).

Dean’s article appeared earlier this week in the regional food digest All Things Local Food in Central Louisiana.

Interested in including local food in your workplace? Hoping to support the local food economy at your business? It is now easier than ever for businesses to support Central Louisiana’s local food economy.

The Central Louisiana Local Food Working Group recently developed a set of guidelines offering different methods for businesses to support our local food economy. Some of these methods include:

  • Including local food in your catered meeting meals
  • Offering your business as a CSA drop-off site for farmers
  • Setting-up an on-site farmers market

Learn more about these and other ways to support Central Louisiana’s local farmers by downloading the working group’s guidelines here.

The working group will be presenting its Guidelines for Businesses on Monday, January 12th at the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce’s Strategic Luncheon. The Luncheon is scheduled for Monday, January 12th, in partnership with the Central Louisiana Healthy Communities Coalition.

The Strategic Luncheon begins at 11:30am on Monday, January 12th, and will be held at the City of Alexandria’s Convention Hall.
