As you’ve heard us say before, we believe it’s important to share the stories and best practices from organizations doing great work across Louisiana. Amplifying these messages is a way to inspire and encourage, and to see what works when it comes to improving health outcomes for children and communities. So, for the rest of 2019, we’re producing one short video a month about a Blue Cross Foundation grantee that is doing exceptional work.

This month, we present the story of Hope for Opelousas (HFO). HFO first came on our radar when its founder, Loren Carriere, was selected for the Angel Award. HFO combines tutoring, mentorship and support for the families it serves. Their work has been incredibly successful in positively affecting the social determinants of health for families living in poverty in the Opelousas area.

Last year, HFO approached the Foundation about a grant to expand its programming to include elementary students. We’re proud of their work and are humbled to share their story.
