Colleagues,
As you know, Louisiana nonprofits work daily to improve education, health, economic opportunity and more for Louisiana’s children and families. These are the Social Determinants of Health — economic and social conditions that strongly influence health outcomes.
There are powerful examples of great work going on across our state to influence these social determinants. Over the next few months, we plan to highlight some of those examples through a series of videos and webinars. We’re kicking off with a video focused on early childhood education and high quality early experiences, and how they determine health and later quality of life. This video features the work of one of our Collective Impact grantees, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greater Baton Rouge.
Our hope is that these videos and webinars help to build an even broader awareness of the social determinants of health, and connect nonprofits working in these spaces to generate new ideas and collaborations across sectors. If this video sparks any ideas about the work that needs to be done in your community, please reach out. We are happy to facilitate connections and support your work as we endeavor to make Louisiana a healthier and even more vibrant place in the years to come.
One final note: this series will take the place of our Annual Partner Convening. For those who attended last year, our convening was an opportunity for our grantees, co-funding partners and community leaders from across the state to get together and share best practices and promising new ideas. We still intend to do in-person partner convenings in future years. In the short term, the ongoing spread of COVID-19 means we will have to keep relying on digital means to share many of the same key ideas, to facilitate collaborative learning and relationship building over the next few months.
We hope you’ll join us.
Sincerely,
Chloé Wiley
