As you know, Hurricane Ida hit South Louisiana with particularly damaging impacts in the southeastern part of the state. The Blue Cross Foundation team has all reported in safe, and we are working with other organizations across the state to assess and meet needs.
Here is a guide for how to access resources, and also places to give money, time and more if you want to assist those recovering from this devastating storm.
A number of local community foundations have funds operating to meet emergency needs. Right now, they are all accepting donations.
- The Bayou Community Foundation’s Bayou Recovery Fund
- The Northshore Community Foundation’s Hurricane Ida Emergency Relief Fund
- Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s Hurricane Ida Relief Fund
- The Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Relief Fund
These organizations will have applications available soon for organizations meeting the needs of folks in each region. Another option for nonprofits meeting urgent needs is the Community Crisis and Disaster Relief grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation. Given that most of our staff is currently without power and internet access, it will take us a little extra time to process these applications.
We are grateful to all of the first responders, utility workers and emergency response professionals who are working 24/7 to see Louisiana through the storm. If you see needs that you think we can meet, please reach out to bcbslafoundation@bcbsla.com
We will get through this together. Stay strong.
