“Angels of Change” grants available to past Angel Award honorees, organizations

(Baton Rouge, LA) — The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation has announced a $2.5 million Angels of Change grant fund to commemorate the 25th anniversary of The Angel Award® program. The Foundation plans to make up to 10 grants of $250,000 each to coalitions made of up past Angel Award honorees and the organizations they serve.

Each year, the Foundation recognizes “Angels,” or Louisianians who have made significant contributions to the health and lives of the state’s children. Angels have been chosen for their work in healthcare, education, foster care, overcoming childhood trauma, the arts, mentorship programs and much more. By providing funds for them to work together around issues of common concern, the Foundation hopes to inspire significant progress for the next 25 years.

“Since 1995, The Angel Award has celebrated some of those most dedicated, talented and passionate leaders working for children in the state,” said Michael Tipton, president of the Foundation. “We believe that by setting the conditions for these Angels and their partners to work together, we can make real progress in changing conditions for our kids.”

The Angels of Change program operates on a “collective impact” model – grassroots coalitions of many partners working under a common plan to solve tough issues. Previous Angels – of which there are more than 200 across the state – can partner together based on common issues or location and are not required to match the Foundation’s investment.

“What we want to see is two or more of these individuals working together to lead a coalition for change,” Tipton added.

The Foundation has modeled the grant program on its previous successful collective impact grant programs, including Challenge for a Healthier Louisiana and ongoing collective impact investments made in the past four years.

The first deadline to submit Letters of Intent for Angels of Change grants is Dec. 1, 2019. Angels and organizations interested in applying can review the full Request for Proposals and search for other past honorees at www.bcbslafoundation.org/angelsofchange
